AFRICAN ANECDOTES WHAT I LOVE ABOUT AFRICA
By Linda Maydell
@
I
often write about the poignant sadness of Africa,
but this time I want to forget
the "tail" side of the coin and just give you the "heads."
I love the
visible horizons. (Moonrise from the sky deck.)
I
love the quaintness and the beauty. (Near Mbalabala, Zimbabwe)
|

I love the tranquility and simplicity of rural
life. (Mangwande, Zimbabwe)
|
|

I love the people. -- their willing hospitality.
(Lydia Mahlangu, at whose home the lectures were held.) ~ ~ ~ ~

…their Proverbs 31 industriousness. (Hogo, Zimbabwe)
|
...their giving hearts. (Enoch Ncube’s wife gives me the
last of her guavas – 0rganically grown!

…their ability to worship God whole-heartedly, but
without formality. ("I wanna lead singing too, grandpa!")

|
…the way they love to
greet each other, (I wish you could hear the beautiful harmony of their voices while they do it.)

~
~ ~ ~ …the innocence
of the children. (This toddler is imitating her mother. They have no lawns because of snakes, so every morning, they tidy
up the "khaya" by sweeping the dirt.)

|
…the way they think differently
to us. (This is how an African child role-plays the apostles collecting
12 baskets full!)

~
~ ~ ~ …their humility, eg.
the way they are willing to be corrected, even when old. (This is a 96-year-old babe in Christ.)

|
…the way they help each
other. (One person was chosen from each village to educate the young about AIDS and counsel those with AIDS. These two Christians
were chosen from Cinderella and Hogo villages. This they do for no pay.)

And I love (together
with Les) being the instrument of so many loving hearts in the USA – Giving them your gifts and seeing their
thankfulness for things we take for granted:
Food, (Hogo)

|
…their eagerness to learn. (This lady at Mankunzane had kitchen duty, but she SO badly wanted to hear the lesson…)

I love having
the opportunity to hopefully do or say something to impact lives for eternity. (Here women are learning how to teach their
children at Pangani, Zimbabwe.)

|
Glasses & Bibles, (Here
Newman Gumpo helps women find the right strength of spectacles in order for them to be able to read again. Pangani, Zimbabwe)

|

Soap. (Mangwande, Zimbabwe. Soap, donated by a sister in the USA, tends not to be bought when money is
short, but it helps prevent many diseases.)
|
Thank you for enabling me to enjoy such blessings
from God – and all this in just one month! (*-*) With love, Linda Maydell

. Thanks, Linda, for
so beautifully expressing the joys of serving God in Africa! Love you! --Betty Tope . My mom and dad have been back in Zimbabwe preaching
the gospel again since Jan '09. Zimbabwe is the country directly north of South Africa and they work with the Maydells often.
Would love to see them added to the list you have so that other women can pray for their work as well. I know from "Aunty
Linda", "Aunty Joanne", and my mom's experiences, that teaching women in a foreign land is such a challenge.
They can use all the prayers that can be lifted up. Thanks for this website as well. I just found out about it
today and am already enjoying it so much! --Maryandra Wiser, Decatur, AL
